Since its founding in 2020, the Women’s Ice Hockey Club at Virginia Tech has been a member of the Women’s Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (WACCHL). In their inaugural year, the club made an immediate impact and captured its first WACCHL championship.

The team hosts its home games at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia, located approximately 45 minutes from Virginia Tech’s main campus.

As a student-run organization, the Women’s Ice Hockey Club is driven by a commitment to athletic and academic excellence, teamwork, and the continued development of women’s ice hockey at Virginia Tech and in the New River Valley. The program strives to foster a competitive yet inclusive environment that supports player growth both on and off the ice, while also representing the university with pride at the regional and national level.

Team Operations

Practices are held twice a week in Roanoke at the Berglund Center and Lancerlot Sports Complex. Carpools are organized each week to ensure all team members have transportation to and from the rink.

Club dues vary each year and help cover expenses for both the fall and spring semesters. This includes practice and game ice time, travel and lodging for away games, driver reimbursements, league and referee fees, uniforms, and team activities. Players are responsible for providing their own equipment.

Tryouts are open to Virginia Tech students and typically take place in early-mid September. Keep up with @vtwhockey on Instagram and Women’s Ice Hockey at Virginia Tech on Facebook for up-to-date scheduling information.
